Done With Work

Friday was my last day at the Biznizzle. I'll miss (some of) it.

Now all I have to do is pack.

Good Lord, where to start. Luckily I just don't have that much stuff. Mostly I just need to clean out my room. And figure out a way to take my rocking chair. I REALLY like that rocking chair. Not that any of y'all have any idea what I'm talking about. It's really unimportant. Oh well.

We leave in exactly 2 weeks. Check back later. This blog will be far more interesting when we're actually on the road.

Revisions Are Time Consuming

A Brief (revised) Itinerary

June 9th
Day 1
Houston to Fort Worth

Since Amanda can't leave on the 8th, we're going to leave mid-day Monday morning and drive from Houston to Fort Worth to spend the night with my sister (hi, Sister). We'll be leaving from there early, early in the morning to drive to Colorado.

June 10th
Day 2
Fort Worth, Tx to Woodland Park, Co

June 11th
Day 3
Woodland Park, Co to Green River, Wy

I tried to paste a picture of the road we'll be driving, but it didn't work so here's the link to the best part of the day.

June 12th
Day 4
Green River, Wy to Gardiner, Mt

June 13th
Day 5
Gardiner, Mt to Calgary, AB

June 14th
Day 6
Calgary/Banff, AB to Prince George, BC

June 15th
Day 7
Prince George, BC to Fort Nelson, BC

Here's where the revision really starts. See, Juneau had an avalanche a week or so ago that took out 2.5 miles of their power line. No power, equals no go. So we're skipping the Juneau tour, to hopefully do a whale watching tour in Anchorage when we get there, a few days earlier than we anticipated.

June 16th
Day 8
Fort Nelson, BC to Whitehorse, YT

June 17th
Day 9
Whitehorse, YT to Tok, AK

Since we have a few extra days to play with, we don't have to do 800 mile days anymore. Very nice.

June 18th
Day 10
Tok, AK to Anchorage, AK

This also means we don't have to border cross 4 times.

June 19th - 23rd

This will be spent doing whatever we want. Midnight sun is the 20th. I promise lots of pictures. We might possibly go to Denali National Park, but as that would be another day driving, it's still just a small possibility. Or a whale watching tour from the Anchorage port. We'll see. I need to go research a few more possibilities.

June 23rd
Amanda's flight leaves at 10pm, which means she'll hafta be at the airport at 8pm. My only friend in the whole city. *sigh*

As this revision put us leaving a little later and arriving a little earlier, I'm kinda liking it. But we'll see what my travel companion has to say, eh, Amandita?

Caitlin and Amanda's Ultimate Road Trip '08

A Brief Itinerary

June 8th
Day 0
Houston to Fort Worth

After Amanda gets off work, we're going to drive from Houston to Fort Worth and spend the night with my sister (hi, Sister) before leaving from there early, early in the morning.

June 9th
Day 1
Fort Worth, Tx to Woodland Park, Co

In Woodland Park we will (hopefully) be staying with my great-aunt and -uncle for the night.

June 10th
Day 2
Woodland Park, Co to Green River, Wy

This will be a beautiful drive. Just a few hundred miles to go, it will be almost entirely threaded through the Rockies. When we get to Green River, we will be staying with and old Marine buddy of my dad's.

June 11
Day 3
Green River, Wy to Gardiner, Mt

Today we drive through the Grand Tetons National Park and Yellowstone. Not sure how long it'll take us to fight the hordes of tourists within the park itself, but I think we can make Yellowstone by noonish. Maybe we'll have a picnic lunch there before seeing Old Faithful. Then we wind our way north through the park before ending up at a coworker's daughter's house in Gardiner, Mt.

June 12th
Day 4
Gardiner, Mt to Calgary, AB

Ah, border crossing day. This should be fun. I'm really hoping they don't make me unpack my car entirely and route through all the boxes before letting us pass. I don't seem like a drug dealer/terrorist, do I? I'll bring an extra roll of tape just in case. If we can make it, depending on time, we might stay within Banff National Park in the Canadian Rockies, just west of Calgary. There's a pretty nice looking hostel a few miles further on.

June 13th
Day 5
Calgary/Banff, AB to Prince George, BC

One of the prettiest drives we'll have. We're going to go through Banff and Jasper National Parks to cross into British Columbia.

June 14th
Day 6
Prince George, BC to Watson Lake, YT

A day to just push through. We need to cross British Columbia in two days if we're to get to Skagway in time for the ferry to Haines.

June 15th and 16th
Day 7 & 8
Watson Lake, YT to Haines, AK

We'll be driving into Skagway on the 15th, and taking the ferry from Skagway to Haines on the 16th at 7am. That should be interesting. Once in Haines, we'll have a day of rest and relaxation. As little driving as possible.

June 17th
Day 9
Haines to Juneau round trip tour

This is tour day. The only really touristy thing we'll be doing on the trip (besides Old Faithful). The boat leaves from Haines at 8:45am, sails down through the channel to Juneau. They take us by bus to downtown Juneau, where we wander for several hours before returning. They're going to take us to Mendenhall Glacier too. Hopefully we'll see lots of whales. They're apparently guaranteed. We return by boat to Haines at 7:45pm, where will return to our hotel to sleep.

June 18th
Day 10
Haines, AK to Tok, AK

Another border crossing day. I hope it won't be too awful. Once in Tok, we'll just sleep.

June 19th
Day 11
Tok, AK to Anchorage, AK

Last day of driving. Hopefully this won't be too bad. We will be passing some gorgeous mountains though. In fact, most of this drive will take place in the mountains. I hope that doesn't slow us down too much.

June 20th - 23rd
This will be spent doing whatever we want. Midnight sun is the 20th. I promise lots of pictures. We might possibly go to Denali National Park, but as that would be another day driving, it's still just a small possibility.

June 23rd
Amanda's flight leaves at 10pm, which means she'll hafta be at the airport at 8pm. My only friend in the whole city. *sigh*

Well, onwards and upwards.

That's the plan as of today. It has changed slightly in some cases and greatly in others since its first conception. I'm still fleshing out little details, like hotels and food and costs, but I'm not greatly worried about it. Perhaps I should be. But I am a procrastinator, so I'll deal with that tomorrow.
